We had a great seminar with Dr. Vivienne Ming today. Dr. Ming is an interdisciplinary scientist, entrepreneur, and all around inspiring person. Her talk was so fascinating and her far-reaching curiosity was infectious!
One of the things she talked about was her experience reconciling her own data gathering about her son’s diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes with the medical community’s process. She worked to “hack” existing medical technology to build a model that predicts her son’s blood glucose level using tracked data and natural language inputs. Unfortunately there are many barriers to bringing this potentially life saving technology to other families. Her experience provided many insights into the ways that current practices hamper innovation and the differences in development from field to field.
