Yesterday we celebrated Open Access Week with the 2016 Open Access Symposium. I had the opportunity to serve on the planning committee this year and we invited two great keynote speakers: Justin Peters, a journalist at Slate and the author of The Idealist: Aaron Swartz and the Rise of Free Culture on the Internet and Jennie Rose Halperin, the Communications Manager at Creative Commons.
I led a panel featuring Brian Sweeting (Content Strategist, Teachers College, Columbia University), Emily Gover (Director of Content Marketing, Flocabulary), and Claudia McGivney, (Head of Academic Engagement, Stony Brook University Libraries). The panel featured diverse perspectives from across edtech and open educational resources.

The symposium also featured two panels organized by my colleagues focusing on the digital humanities and open science/data visualization. It was an inspiring day!
