Today I attended Stony Brook’s Online Learning Symposium hosted by the Faculty Center and the Division of Information Technology. The first session I attended focused on an SBOLD grant conducted by Professor David Hanson. Hanson produced videos featuring ten undergraduate students explaining chemistry concepts in Stony Brook’s One-Button Video Studio. Two of the students who participated, Verdah Ahmad and Manjot Singh, talked about their experiences in the program and showed examples of the videos they created. These videos are particularly interesting because they mirror peer-to-peer education, with students explaining concepts in their own words to an audience of other students.
Over lunch, Claudia, me, and Diana Voss from TLT did a presentation on the services that the library and TLT can offer to online students and instructors. In the afternoon, I gave a lightning presentation on library resources with Darren, Victoria, and Dana.
